About Us

BMI was founded in 1939 by forward-thinkers who wanted to represent songwriters in emerging genres, like jazz, blues and country, and protect the public performances of their music. Operating on a non-profit-making basis, BMI is now the largest music rights organization in the U.S. and is still nurturing new talent and new music.

What We Do

BMI is the bridge between songwriters and the businesses and organizations that want to play their music publicly. As a global leader in music rights management, BMI serves as an advocate for the value of music, representing more than 10.5 million musical works created and owned by more than 700,000 songwriters, composers and music publishers.

Why Do I Need A License?

You can’t play music publicly without one. Copyright laws require music users to get permission from songwriters and composers who can charge a fee before their music is played publicly, which then allows them to continue to create music.

What We Do

Three people – Charlie Ergen, Candy Ergen and Jim DeFranco – were hauling an enormous C-band TV dish antenna via pickup truck to a customer in remote Colorado. In the early 1980s this was one of only two dish antennas owned by the developing new business. A powerful gust of wind whipped up, blowing the antenna off its trailer and into a roadside ditch. There goes half of the company.

Summed up as a bad day in the infancy of DISH, the founding trio overcame this setback to build what is now a Fortune 250 company that employs thousands and serves millions throughout the nation – a seemingly unlikely future on that blustery day.

Fast forward to 1995, when Ergen set his sights on launching his first satellite from China, then a novice in the satellite industry. Staking the future of young DISH on one, multimillion dollar satellite, Ergen gambled with the odds of a favorable launch. After watching a Chinese rocket promptly crash and burn, he witnessed the nerve-wracking, but ultimately successful deployment of Echo I.

Several months later, DISH made its first broadcast to customers from its uplink center in Cheyenne, Wyo., using small dish antennas and state-of-the-art technology designed and built in-house.

Today, it appears that the real story of DISH centers on Ergen’s visionary courage to reinvent television distribution. Widely considered the industry leader in technology, DISH’s award-winning innovations include: Hopper with Sling® Whole-Home HD DVR that gives customers the ability to watch live and recorded TV programming from smartphones, tablets and computers; and the Tailgater®, a lightweight, portable satellite dish ideal for watching TV while tailgating, camping, in the RV or at outdoor activities.

In February 2015, Ergen launched Sling TV, the industry’s first over-the-top television service that delivers the best of live sports, news and entertainment to broadband-connected devices at home and on-the-go.

Even as DISH consistently introduces products of increasing sophistication, it also leads the industry by offering the best value – the same channels at a better price. Challenging the economics of pay-TV, Ergen has charged competitors with passing the burden of wasteful spending to subscribers, and he maintains the mantra that DISH will always offer customers the lowest everyday pricing nationwide.

What We Do

LOWELL Manufacturing Co. designs and manufactures audio, rack, and power products for professional systems integration. We employ a “quality plus value” focus to provide integrators with products that install with ease and perform well. From boardrooms and multimedia areas to sports arenas, educational facilities and house of worship venues, our products work tirelessly behind the scenes to provide seamless integration for professionally installed systems.

Company History

Our roots go back to 1947, when founder Ben Lowell was awarded the first design patents for spun aluminum baffles that formed the nucleus of a new product line. The idea of “sound from the ceiling” was novel then and the fledgling company was launched from the second floor of a modest two story building in the city of St. Louis.

In 1954 the company moved to Maplewood, Mo. to expand the manufacturing area and better house the growing product line. The 1950s continued with the company receiving design patents and introducing a line of cabinets sold under the brand name Lowell Metal Works and in 1960 another building was added for manufacturing prototypes and custom metal products. In 1961, Lowell introduced the world’s first plastic molded speaker grille to supplement its line of metal baffles and enclosures. Two additional design patents for speaker baffles were also awarded.

In the ’70s and ’80s Lowell expanded its audio product line, increasing its offering of backboxes to include large cubic volume enclosures for convention centers, airports and performing arts centers. The company was in a unique position to package components needed for sound masking speakers in ceiling plenum spaces. During this time current President and CEO John Lowell joined the company’s sales and marketing department. His brother Wilhelm Lowell came onboard in 1980, eventually moving into operations and new product development.

From the 1990s into the new millennium, Lowell Manufacturing progressed to a state-of-the-art facility in Pacific, Mo. to house advanced fabrication and powder coat painting equipment capable of producing a level of quality never before seen in the industry. This led to the introduction of a new line of equipment racks, cabinets and rack accessories that continues to expand into new markets. Lowell also developed AC power products ranging from remote power controls and sequencing to Advanced Surge Suppression. Design patents were awarded for an innovative Lay-In Tile Speaker System, Universal horn/speaker, and key-actuated volume control.

Tom Lowell joined the company in 2008, bringing with him a background in distribution sales. Today the three Lowell brothers are adding their mark to the rich history of the company founded by their parents, Ben and Dorothy Lowell, as they design and manufacture products in the USA, while supporting the American worker and the economy.

What We Do

The story of MSE Audio begins in 1995 when a group of businessmen, designers, engineers and tinkerers, but above all, audiophiles, developed a speaker that would be the first offering in a new brand called Induction Dynamics. Not content with just good sound, these audiophiles focused on perfection, with hand-built and hand-finished cabinets, hand-selected components and their own unique crossover design. After a few years of marketing this new line, an opportunity arose to acquire another brand which also had a reputation for superb quality and innovation… and MSE Audio was born.

Today, MSE Audio® comprises six brands: Induction Dynamics, Phase Technology, Rockustics, SolidDrive, SoundTube Entertainment and Soundsphere. The SolidDrive brand was developed in-house while the remaining brands were brought in via acquisition. (A seventh brand, Secret Sound, was merged into SoundTube after it was acquired.)

Our Brands

The MSE Audio brands provide a broad range of speaker choices for a wide variety of applications in both the commercial and residential markets. Our products range from 3” architectural speakers to the ultimate “man cave” tower speaker with dual 15” subwoofers. Models include in-ceiling, in-wall, on-wall, pendant, focused audio, broad coverage, paging/security, outdoor, line array, surround, wireless, IP-addressable, subwoofer, freestanding/tower, bookshelf, soundbar, digitally-controlled home theater system and invisible speaker options.

Key to all lines are sonic quality and ease of installation. “Average” and “generic” are not words one would use to describe an MSE Audio product. The company’s technologies maximize the listening experience while making installation fast and simple. Over two dozen patents for speaker design and mounting technologies are owned by MSE Audio. Our patents include the soft dome tweeter courtesy of Phase Technology, a brand that brings six decades of innovation to the MSE family.

The Synergy of MSE Audio

When a company is brought into the MSE Audio family, it is not treated as a wholly owned subsidiary or a vertical profit center. Rather, it becomes part of a team, exercising a level of synergy not normally seen in multi-brand companies. For example, when Connecticut-based Soundsphere was added to MSE Audio, its speaker designers soon found themselves contributing to a re-design of two Rockustics rock speakers. Likewise, the Florida-based engineers at Phase Technology were heavily involved in the design of SoundTube’s IP-addressable and wireless speaker systems, while Utah-based SoundTube’s industrial design expertise has played a role in the look of recent PhaseTech and SolidDrive designs.

Sales and customer service for the brands exhibit a high level of synergy as well. The sales and marketing teams are divided into two groups, Residential and Commercial, allowing each group to focus on those vertical markets while working together to promote multiple brands to each market. Customer service, however, consists of one tightly-knit team located at MSE Audio headquarters in Overland Park, Kansas. This structure gives dealers in both markets access to a wide range of speaker options with a cohesive support plan that does not change from brand to brand.

What’s next for MSE Audio?

The company will continue developing key technologies through its various brands, further expanding the speaker options available to system integrators and end users. Who knows, we may even acquire more companies. The bottom line, though, is that sonic quality will rule supreme.

What We Do

Living in the shadow of the Great Depression, our namesake and founders shared a sense of determination and optimism; but along with that came expertise. J. P. Quam had manufacturing experience in phonograph motors and electronic parts, while Frank Nichols had a talent for metalworking. Together, these men and their complementary skills formed the basis of our company.

In the ‘30’s, much of the manufacturing of “store-bought” radios was done in the Midwest. Quam-Nichols was a principal original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the loudspeakers found in most of the brand name radios of the time. A few years later, we did the same for another new technology called television.

As one of the oldest loudspeaker manufacturers in continuous operation in the United States, Quam-Nichols has lived through numerous changes over the years. American made brands of consumer electronics are all but a memory, as most of the big brand names of that era are either gone completely, or gone offshore — along with their vendors. Not Quam-Nichols.

With a strong manufacturing base and well-trained workforce already in place, we chose to emphasize our core strengths and adapt our business plan to the changing market. We have always called Chicago our home. Our strengths are here, our resources are here —and we’re successful here.

We’ve Been Here For A While

Quam-Nichols was the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the speakers found in most of the brand name radios of the time. A few years later, Quam did the same for another new technology called television. Looking back in time and viewing the growth of the radio, television and entertainment industries, Quam is proud to say that Quam-Nichols played an important part.

Whatever an application requires—open-ceiling, in-wall, surface-mount, in-ceiling or outdoor audio—SoundTube has a high-performance speaker to fit the bill. SoundTube engineers create product lines and models with consistency in mind, so the CMi speakers in the drop-tile ceiling over a restaurant’s dining room produce the same tone and sound quality as the RSi speakers in the open ceiling over the foyer. And whether those speakers emit music or announcements, every note and word is always crystal clear.

SoundTube also matches incomparable sound with extraordinary design. Our speakers are intended to look as good as they sound. We create aesthetically pleasing speakers with clean lines and feature a variety of mounting methods as well as custom painting and color options to ensure our products fit in to any commercial dècor. SoundTube speakers can blend in with your architecture, complement your layout, or remain virtually invisible.

BroadBeam®: Ensuring the Best Sound Coverage

Anyone who has paid close attention to a conventional speaker may have noticed what is sometimes called the grocery store effect: The farther off-center you move from the speaker, the weaker its higher frequencies become. Not so with SoundTube speakers. Our patented BroadBeam® waveguide technology produces a predictable 110° coverage pattern that ensures you don’t have to be directly in front of or beneath a speaker to get great sound.

While the beam of sound created by a typical speaker is direct and narrow, BroadBeam disperses a much fuller sound to create a wider beam, providing crisp vocals and unrivaled clarity between musical notes to a larger area. This is what makes SoundTube speakers stand above the rest. With such outstanding, consistent full-range edge-to-edge coverage, you get much better sound for your money.
The Cure for the Common Speaker™

Our speakers are unlike anything you’ve ever heard—or seen—before.

From the attention-grabbing cylindrical structures that gave us our name, to the sleek, contemporary designs we create today, one thing has always set us apart: superior sound. With an unwavering focus on solution-based engineering and customer satisfaction, SoundTube Entertainment has been crafting cost-effective, high-quality, aesthetic speakers for the commercial sound industry for over 17 years.

Offering full lines of loudspeakers for paging, background music, sound focusing, foreground music and a variety of other uses, SoundTube has efficient solutions for almost any commercial audio need. With fuller coverage over larger areas than conventional speakers, SoundTube’s sound is not only exceptional, it’s economical. Ours are the most cost-effective speakers of their kind on the market today.

BroadBeam® vs. BroadBeam®HP
For particularly noisy or large areas like airports, convention centers and gymnasiums, there’s BroadBeam®HP, a high-power version of BroadBeam with a 90° coverage angle. BroadBeamHP features higher output and longer throw, allowing announcements and music to be clearly heard over loud crowds or at longer distances.

Solution-Based Product Development

Throughout every step in the development process, SoundTube engineers keep the end-user in mind. Our careful consideration of feedback from resellers and customers facilitates constant innovation and improvement in mounting systems, industrial design and sound quality. Most SoundTube speakers have built-in or optional transformers. This means they’re compatible with just about any commercial application in the world. So whether you’re running on 25, 70.7 or 100 volts or low impedance, SoundTube speakers will fit seamlessly into your system.

With included and optional accessories that can adapt our speakers to a variety of applications, installation is a cinch, resulting in reduced labor costs. Each box includes almost all the necessary items to set up the speaker, so your installer won’t have to shop around or dig in his truck for miscellaneous parts and pieces. Nor will he have to perform a precarious balancing act on a ladder while fighting to install a bracket—our hanging and mounting systems are created specifically to make the job trouble-free.

We’re even there for you behind the scenes before your speakers are ordered. SoundTube engineers work with integrators and consultants throughout the specification process to make sure you get the correct quantity of the proper speakers for your application. Independently verified, consistent data is also readily available to our dealers in a variety of formats to help them create the best possible commercial sound system for your space.

What We Do

TOA Corporation is dedicated to the development, manufacturing and distribution of premier audio and security products. TOA Corporation was founded in Kobe, Japan over 80 years ago. All of TOA’s products bear its name. TOA operates in over 120 countries worldwide, with more than 3,250 employees and sales greater than $430 million dollars. TOA manufacturing facilities are found in nearly every major market area. These facilities have a reputation for precision design and fabrication, resulting in a proven track record of TOA product reliability.

TOA’s extensive line of audio products includes amplifiers, speakers, mixers, wireless microphone systems, digital processors and network audio. For links to other TOA websites around the world, visit the TOA Global website at http://www.toa.jp.

TOA Electronics, Inc. was founded in the United States in 1974, exactly 40 years after TOA Corporation began its life in Kobe, Japan. The original offices were in San Francisco, CA and was headed by Mr. Takao Toyama, who was appointed President to oversee the US business group from 1974-1977. About the same time, the groundbreaking 900 Series mixer-amplifier was introduced. In addition, TEI entered the US intercom market with its EXES Series, which was widely deployed in hospitals & prisons throughout the US. By around 1980, TEI entered the Pro/MI market with an impressive array of speakers, amplifiers, mixers & microphones, targeted at professional musicians and sound engineers. The lineup was highly successful throughout the 80’s and in 1988, the first multi-channel, multi-function DSP (known as “SAORI”) was launched to high acclaim in the US. However, in the 90’s, TEI changed its focus towards more commercial solutions, including products for commercial paging & security Intercom. In the aftermath of 911, and with a growing interest in security, TEI decided the moment was ripe to launch its lineup of CCTV security cameras, which were hugely popular in Japan & Asia. After several years, TEI ultimately shifted away from this market to refocus its efforts on commercial audio, Intercom & Mass Notification, which are areas for which TOA is globally renowned. In 2008, TEI expanded the scope of its business to include Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Shortly thereafter, TEI established its presence in the NYC area to better support its Eastern time zone customers, as well as those in Central America. Then, in 2010, TEI added an east coast office in Secaucus, NJ.  TEI further expanded it sales role into South America om 2017 including Brazil.   Now in 2019, the Secaucus NJ office became the headquarters for the US, Central and South Americas.  TEI is now headed by Mr. Mitsuhiro Omura, who is President & CEO in charge of TOA Americas. TOA continues to grow and promote its wide range of innovative PA, paging, Intercom & Mass Notification solutions throughout North America.

What We Do

West Penn Wire was founded in 1971 in Claysville, Pennsylvania. The early years of the company were devoted to the premise of supplying quality wire and cable to our customers in a timely manner. To this end, the company was committed to manufacturing in order to stock warehouses and distribution centers rather than manufacturing to fill orders. This manufacturing philosophy ensures a swift turnaround of orders and prompt delivery of quality products to the customer.

Today, nothing has changed about the way we do business or our philosophy of providing quality wire and cable in a timely manner. The only difference is in the facilities and equipment used. What started in a 5000 sq ft building with one production line is today a large international corporation with four manufacturing facilities. The corporate office and engineering complex are located in Washington, Pennsylvania, and there are several regional distribution centers located throughout the United States.

In 1990, West Penn Wire became the original Cable Design Technologies company and changed their name to West Penn Wire/CDT to reflect this new and exciting affiliation.

In 2004, Cable Design Technologies merged with Belden Wire and Cable. NYSE ticker symbol- BDC. With the merger The CDT has come off our name. We are now known as WEST PENN WIRE.
